Outsourcing your quality, safety or QHSE function

You carry the obligations of a structured organisation without the volume to justify a full-time post. I take on the function from outside, at a rhythm agreed with you.

  • Part-time
  • Interim cover
  • Coaching a junior manager

Three roles, one logic

You do not have the volume for a full-time post, but you carry the obligations of an organisation that would have one. The function is taken on from outside, with a rhythm and a scope agreed in advance.

Outsourced quality manager

Running the system, steering processes and indicators, internal audits, management review, certification audit preparation.

Outsourced safety manager

Risk assessment, contractor safety plans, statutory inspection tracking, incident investigation, liaison with employee representative bodies.

Part-time QHSE manager

The full function where your standards and obligations span quality, safety and environment together.

Three typical situations

The function has never existed

The company has grown, obligations have accumulated, and the director carries the subject on top of their own job. The function is created from outside, then brought in house progressively if the size justifies it.

The person has left

Resignation, transfer, long-term leave. Continuity has to be assured without waiting for a recruitment, particularly when an audit is approaching.

The person is there but isolated

A junior quality manager has just been recruited and nobody in house can train them. The support then focuses on building their capability rather than on production, and is designed to end.

What you receive

  • A defined intervention rhythm, on site and remote
  • Effective steering of the system and its indicators
  • Internal audits delivered and the programme kept on track
  • Preparation and facilitation of the management review
  • Regulatory watch applicable to your activity
  • Training for internal champions and process owners
  • A single point of contact, reachable between visits

When this is not the right service

If you expect a daily presence or permanent availability, what you need is a recruitment, not an outsourced engagement. And if the intention is for the consultant to carry alone an initiative that line management takes no part in, the arrangement will not hold.

Frequently asked questions

How much time should we budget?

It depends on your size, the number of sites and your standards. Half a day to two days a month covers most single-standard SMEs. The volume is reassessed after the first months, up or down.

Do you work on site or remotely?

Both. Steering, document preparation and indicator monitoring work well remotely. Internal audits, workstation observation and team engagement need a presence on site.

What if we recruit a quality manager internally?

That is the goal in many cases. The engagement then shifts to coaching the new recruit and afterwards ends. A system mastered in house beats lasting dependence on an external provider.

Can you represent us during the certification audit?

I can support you and answer on methodology. Your management and process owners must answer on their own activity. An auditor spots an organisation that lets its consultant do the talking straight away.

How much time would you genuinely need?

Most directors substantially over or under estimate the volume required. One conversation is usually enough to scope it.
